Sora

Sora is OpenAI's text-to-video model, and what stands out most in testing is scene coherence over longer clips than most competitors attempt — up to roughly a minute in some cases, compared to the few seconds typical of tools like Runway or Pika. We generated a prompt describing a walking shot through a busy street scene, and object permanence (people and vehicles staying visually consistent as the camera moved) held up noticeably better than earlier-generation video models we've tested.

Camera control is another strength: Sora responds well to specific cinematographic instructions (drone shot, tracking shot, slow zoom) in a way that produces genuinely different, appropriate camera movement rather than a generic pan every time. This makes it more useful for storyboard-style previsualization than tools that treat every prompt similarly regardless of the requested camera language.

The practical limitations are access and cost: availability has been rolled out gradually and isn't universally open, and generation is compute-intensive, which shows up in both wait times and the credit cost per clip at higher resolutions. Physical accuracy also still breaks down in scenes with complex interactions — multiple people touching objects, fine hand movement, or physics-heavy scenarios (splashing water, cloth movement) remain the weakest spots, similar to other AI video tools. For longer-duration, camera-directed concept videos and previsualization, Sora is one of the strongest options available; for guaranteed access today or budget-conscious short clips, tools like Runway or Pika currently offer more predictable availability.
