Poe, built by Quora, solves a specific practical problem: instead of maintaining separate subscriptions to ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini to compare their outputs, Poe puts all of them behind a single subscription and a single chat interface. We tested this by sending the same prompt to GPT-4o, Claude, and a Llama-based model side by side, and being able to directly compare tone and accuracy without switching tabs or accounts made evaluating which model actually fit the task noticeably faster.

The "bot creation" feature lets you build a custom chatbot with a specific system prompt and personality using any of the underlying models as a base, then share it publicly or keep it private — useful for creating a consistent, purpose-built assistant (a customer-support persona, a specific writing-style bot) without needing to build and host your own application around an API. Because it aggregates multiple providers, it is also a practical way to hedge against any single provider's downtime or rate limits.

The trade-off is cost efficiency and depth: paying for Poe access to multiple frontier models is often more expensive overall than a single direct subscription if you mainly use one model anyway, and Poe's interface does not expose every advanced feature each underlying model offers natively (for instance, some of Claude's or ChatGPT's platform-specific tools and integrations are not fully available through Poe's wrapper).
