GitHub Copilot

GitHub Copilot solves a different problem than Cursor: instead of replacing your current editor, it embeds itself inside it as a smart completion assistant. We've used it daily inside VS Code and JetBrains across multiple projects, and the clearest practical strength is the accuracy of its inline completions while actually typing — especially for repetitive patterns (writing unit tests, standard CRUD functions, data transformations) where it saves real, measurable time day to day.

The "Copilot Chat" feature adds a genuine interactive layer: you can select a piece of code and ask it to explain, rewrite, or debug it without leaving the editor, which is especially useful when working with code you didn't write yourself (like an older team project). Being a GitHub product also means excellent integration with Pull Requests — the automated code review feature (Copilot Code Review) has started becoming a real part of team workflows, not just an experimental add-on.

The weaker point compared to Cursor is depth of understanding across the full project: Copilot excels at local suggestions (the current line or function) but is less capable of executing complex changes that span multiple files with a full understanding of how they relate. Suggestion quality also varies noticeably by programming language — excellent for JavaScript/Python/TypeScript, less sharp for less common languages. It's the better fit for anyone who wants to enhance their current editor without switching environments entirely; for anyone who wants an experience built entirely around AI from the ground up, Cursor is closer to that need.
