I approached Leonardo AI from a game developer's perspective because that is the niche it was built for. I needed character concept art, environment thumbnails, and texture maps for a 2D indie game prototype. Leonardo's pre-trained models produced results that were immediately usable as starting points. A prompt like "dark fantasy warrior woman, iron armor, torchlit dungeon, digital painting" generated character concepts with the kind of dramatic lighting and stylized realism you would expect from a professional concept artist. The real differentiator is custom model training. I uploaded 50 of my own illustrations and trained a fine-tuned model in about 20 minutes. The resulting model generated new characters that were stylistically consistent with my existing art — something Midjourney's style reference feature achieves only loosely.
